The Ten Commandments

Our Lord said that the two greatest commandments are to love the Lord, Our God with our whole mind heart and soul, to love our neighbour as ourselves for the sake the Lord, Our God. Thus the Ten Commandments are divided into those two commandments, the first three have to do with the Love of God, and the latter seven have to do with love of neighbour for God’s sake.

I do not believe I have room on this website to go over the Ten Commandments in detail, so instead I’ll just list them here and advise you to do some more research yourself; if you have any questions and want to learn more about a particular Commandment.

Please note that all quotes from Sacred Scriptures, both here and elsewhere, are from the Douay-Rheims version.

Love of God…

1
st Commandment:

“I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous…”

2nd Commandment:

”Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.”

3rd Commandment:

“Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day. Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works. But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.”

Love of neighbour…

4
th Commandment:

“Honour thy father and mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee, that thou mayst live a long time, and it may be well with thee in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee.”

5th Commandment:

“Thou shalt not kill.”

6th Commandment:

“Neither shalt thou commit adultery.”

7th Commandment:

“Thou shalt not steal.”

8th Commandment:

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”

9th Commandment:

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife…”

10
th Commandment:

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house… nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.”

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Amen.

The Athanasian Creed

Whoever wishes to be saved must, above all, keep the Catholic faith.
For unless a person keeps this faith whole and entire, he will undoubtedly be lost forever.
This is what the Catholic faith teaches: we worship one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in unity.
Neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the substance.
For there is one person of the Father, another of the Son, another of the Holy Spirit.
But the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit have one divinity, equal glory, and coeternal majesty.
What the Father is, the Son is, and the Holy Spirit is.
The Father is uncreated, the Son is uncreated, and the Holy Spirit is uncreated.
The Father is boundless, the Son is boundless, and the Holy Spirit is boundless.
The Father is eternal, the Son is eternal, and the Holy Spirit is eternal.
Nevertheless, there are not three eternal beings, but one eternal being.
So there are not three uncreated beings, nor three boundless beings, but one uncreated being and one boundless being.
Likewise, the Father is omnipotent, the Son is omnipotent, the Holy Spirit is omnipotent.
Yet there are not three omnipotent beings, but one omnipotent being.

Thus the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God.
However, there are not three gods, but one God.
The Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Lord.
However, there as not three lords, but one Lord.
For as we are obliged by Christian truth to acknowledge every Person singly to be God and Lord, so too are we forbidden by the Catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords.
The Father was not made, nor created, nor generated by anyone.
The Son is not made, nor created, but begotten by the Father alone.
The Holy Spirit is not made, nor created, nor generated, but proceeds from the Father and the Son.

There is, then, one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three sons; one Holy Spirit, not three holy spirits.
In this Trinity, there is nothing before or after, nothing greater or less. The entire three Persons are coeternal and coequal with one another.
So that in all things, as is has been said above, the Unity is to be worshipped in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity.
He, therefore, who wishes to be saved, must believe thus about the Trinity.

It is also necessary for eternal salvation that he believes steadfastly in the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thus the right faith is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is both God and man.

As God, He was begotten of the substance of the Father before time; as man, He was born in time of the substance of His Mother.
He is perfect God; and He is perfect man, with a rational soul and human flesh.
He is equal to the Father in His divinity, but inferior to the Father in His humanity.
Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ.
And He is one, not because His divinity was changed into flesh, but because His humanity was assumed unto God.
He is one, not by a mingling of substances, but by unity of person.
As a rational soul and flesh are one man: so God and man are one Christ.
He died for our salvation, descended into hell, and rose from the dead on the third day.
He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
At His coming, all men are to arise with their own bodies; and they are to give an account of their own deeds.
Those who have done good deeds will go into eternal life; those who have done evil will go into the everlasting fire.
This is the Catholic faith. Everyone must believe it, firmly and steadfastly; otherwise He cannot be saved.

Amen.

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Tridentine Profession of Faith

I, N, with a firm faith believe and profess each and everything which is contained in the Creed which the Holy Roman Church maketh use of. To wit:

I believe in one God, The Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God. Begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father. By whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And became incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary: and was made man. He was also crucified for us, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried. And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Who together with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, and who spoke through the prophets. And one holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

I most steadfastly admit and embrace Apostolical and ecclesiastical traditions, and all other observances and constitutions of the Church.

I also admit the Holy Scripture according to that sense which our holy mother the Church hath held, and doth hold, to whom it belongeth to judge of the true sense and interpretations of the Scriptures. Neither will I ever take and interpret them otherwise than according to the unanimous consent of the Fathers.

I also profess that there are truly and properly Seven Sacraments of the New Law, instituted by Jesus Christ our Lord, and necessary for the salvation of mankind, though not all for every one; to wit, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Unction, Holy Orders, and Matrimony; and that they confer grace; and that of these, Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders cannot be reiterated without sacrilege.

I also receive and admit the received and approved ceremonies of the Catholic Church in the solemn administration of the aforesaid sacraments.

I embrace and receive all and every one of the things which have been defined and declared in the holy Council of Trent concerning original sin and justification.

I profess, likewise, that in the Mass there is offered to God a true, proper, and propitiatory sacrifice for the living and the dead; and that in the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist there is truly, really, and substantially, the Body and Blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ; and that there is made a conversion of the whole substance of the bread into the Body, and of the whole substance of the wine into the Blood, which conversion the Catholic Church calls Transubstantiation. I also confess that under either kind alone Christ is received whole and entire, and a true sacrament.

I constantly hold that there is a Purgatory, and that the souls therein detained are helped by the suffrages of the faithful. Likewise, that the saints, reigning together with Christ, are to be honored and invoked, and that they offer prayers to God for us, and that their relics are to be venerated.

I most firmly assert that the images of Christ, of the Mother of God, ever virgin, and also of other Saints, ought to be had and retained, and that due honor and veneration is to be given them.

I also affirm that the power of indulgences was left by Christ in the Church, and that the use of them is most wholesome to Christian people.

I acknowledge the Holy Catholic Apostolic Roman Church as the mother and mistress of all churches; and I promise true obedience to the Bishop of Rome, successor to St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, and Vicar of Jesus Christ.

I likewise undoubtedly receive and profess all other things delivered, defined, and declared by the sacred Canons, and general Councils, and particularly by the holy Council of Trent, and by the ecumenical Council of the Vatican, particularly concerning the primacy of the Roman Pontiff and his infallible teaching. I condemn, reject, and anathematize all things contrary thereto, and all heresies which the Church hath condemned, rejected, and anathematized.

This true Catholic faith, outside of which no one can be saved, which I now freely profess and to which I truly adhere, inviolate and with firm constancy until the last breath of life, I do so profess and swear to maintain with the help of God. And I shall strive, as far as possible, that this same faith shall be held, taught, and professed by all those over whom I have charge. I N. do so pledge, promise, and swear, so help me God and these Holy Gospels.

What are the Four Sins the cry to Heaven for Vengeance?

***TRIGGER WARNING!***

The Four Sins that cry to Heaven for Vengeance, are four sins that are so offensive to God, that if they left unrepented for and unchecked, they will result in Him intervening for justice to be done. In modern day Western Society, all four of these sins are practiced, and criticizing them can elicit strong emotional backlash and condemnation for various reasons; indeed discussing them on this very website, can cause feelings of great discomfort from the very readers; so I’d advise you to advance with caution read what is said about these Four Sins, very carefully:

The Taking of Innocent Life:

“And [God] said to [Cain]: What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth to me from the earth.”

-Genesis 4:10 (Emphasis mine)

Perhaps the easiest and most straight forward of the Four Sins to understand, the taking of innocent, blameless human life. Abortion and, in recent years, euthanasia have become the biggest examples of this sin, having now become enshrined into our society via the law. Even worse, we are seeing society celebrating evil as good, and condemning good as evil; where those who welcome, love and defend life from conception to natural death, are viciously attacked and shouted at for expressing and practicing such views, while efforts are made to normalize, glorify, and celebrate, the killing of the young and old.

Understanding the reason why this sin is so serious and offensive should be fairly easy for most people visiting this website to understand; both because the philosophy and reason behind the right to life is very easy to understand; and because the Catholic Faithful are still very vocal about the right to life, and I imagine that the majority of the visitors on this site are, at the very least, decently versed in the Pro-Life Movement.

Unnatural Sexual Activity:

“And the Lord said: The cry of Sodom and Gomorrha is multiplied, and their sin is become exceedingly grievous.”

-Genesis 18:20 (Emphasis mine)

Probably the most controversial and sensitive of the four sins, unnatural sterile sexual activity. The Church’s teaching on sexual morality is that the act itself must be between one man and one woman, within the confines of marriage and opened to the natural outcome of that act; which is the bringing of a new and unique human life into the world. Our Lord Himself taught this when He preached the following in this incident in Sacred Scripture:

And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, and saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? And he said:

For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh.

Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.”

-St. Matthew 19:3-6

Our Lord here preached that marriage is between is between one man, and one woman, for the sake of the one-flesh union between the two; thus, via negativa, He condemned all acts of unnatural sterile sex. Now before I touch upon the most sensitive aspect of this teaching, I want to make a very important clarification, married heterosexual couples, can also commit and be guilty of this sin. A married couple can commit sterile, unnatural sexual sins just as easily as any other pair of individuals in any other situation; the purpose of the one-flesh union of man and woman, is to bring new and unique human beings into the world. Now that doesn’t mean that every conjugal act must bring forth children, but every act must be open to the natural outcome of the conjugal act.

Now, we will address the very delicate topic of people who have sexual desires not pointed towards the one-flesh union with opposite sex, or not pointed towards the opposite sex in an improper way. Firstly, the Church does not teach that having such attractions, in and of themselves is sinful, if anything, one can use these temptations as a cross to reach a very high level of holiness. What is sinful is to submit to these desires and act on them in thought or deed, that is what is sinful. I look upon people who have these attractions as fellow-human beings with God-given dignity, as the Church calls all Faithful Catholics to do; and I, myself have fought fierce battles with sexual sins and know how difficult it is when one is tempted, sexual temptations of any kind pointed in any direction, are very difficult to deal with. But what’s more, is that I, myself have actually struggled with unnatural sexual sins, not the kind that most people think of when they read this section, a different kind; and it was really hard and really brutal. Nonetheless, those who have an attachment to any kind of immorality will not be abandoned by Jesus and Mary, but will have Our Lord’s graces and Our Lady’s intercession to follow the Church’s teachings on the road to Salvation and be free from any sin of any nature that is ensnaring them.

Oppression of the Poor:

Thou shalt not molest a stranger, nor afflict him: for yourselves also were strangers in the land of Egypt.

You shall not hurt a widow or an orphan.

If you hurt them they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry:

And my rage shall be enkindled, and I will strike you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.”

-Exodus 22:21-25 (Emphasis mine)

Oppression of the poor may be a tricky sin to spot at first, because it’s difficult to separate fact from politics. Indeed, some of today’s laws, that were allegedly established to help the poor, actually end up hurting the poor, and making it harder them to get the help they need, to live better and rise to a better spot in life. Perhaps the best way to combat this sin, is to focus on the local and not the national and international; big government, big business and other large entities, do not have the same connections to the poor that local people in your community have, thus they are far more prone to oppress them than one’s own local business or municipal government. Of course, there are things you can do on an international level as well, to combat this sin, such as buying fair trade goods, as a lot of commodities are produced on plantations in third-world countries; where the local plantation workers are subjugated to harsh conditions by the owners of said plantations. These plantations owners and other people and entities involved, are also probably guilty of the fourth and last sin of the Four Sins that Cry to Heaven for Vengeance, which we will now discuss.

Cheating the Worker Out of his Just Wages:

“Behold the hire of the labourers, who have reaped down your fields, which by fraud has been kept back by you, crieth: and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.”

St. James 5:4 (Emphasis mine)

Another tricky one to spot, especially in the modern world where today’s economics has become so complex, and in some cases, frankly fraudulent. I’ll spare everyone of any lecture on the hotly debated topic of how Catholic morality is applied to economics; and simply encourage everyone reading this to again, focus on the local, shop locally and support your local business. Avoid larger companies that are more prone to commit this sin and others like it like for example, outsourcing to the third world which both, cheats our fellow-citizens out of a job they could’ve had, and oppresses the poor in the third world out the same time.

What are the Five Blasphemies against The Immaculate Heart of Mary?

On December 10th 1925, Sister Lucia, the last of the Three Shepherd Children, was visited by Our Lady and the Child Jesus. These apparitions are recorded as thus:

On December 10th, 1925, the most holy Virgin appeared to Lucia, and by her side, elevated on a luminous cloud, was a child. The most holy Virgin rested her hand on her shoulder, and as she did so, she showed her a heart encircled by thorns, which she was holding in her other hand. At the same time, the Child Jesus said, “have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother covered with the thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to remove them with an act of reparation.”

Then the Most Holy Virgin said, “My daughter, look at my Heart surrounded with the thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console me, and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for salvation all those who on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, go to Confession and receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary and keep me company for a quarter of an hour while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.

With this apparition, Our Lady established the Devotion of the Five First Saturdays, a devotion that promises the graces of Final Penitence and Final Perseverance to all souls, who devoutly practice and fulfill this devotion. Thus, this is a devotion that highly encourage any and all fellow-Catholics reading this page, to seriously consider taking up this devotion if you can.

Now Our Lady requested that this devotion of, going to confession, receiving Holy Communion, reciting five decades of the Holy Rosary and then spend fifteen minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary; be practiced for five first Saturdays of five consecutive months. In February of the following year, Our Lady appeared to Sister Lucia again, and explained to her why it was specifically five first Saturdays; namely, because there were five specific blasphemies that the post-Christian society was committing against Our Blessed Mother. The Five Blasphemies that were and are still today, wounding that Immaculate Heart of Our Dear Blessed Mother are listed as follows:

  1. Blasphemies against Her Immaculate Conception: Denials and attacks on the Dogma that Our Lady was conceived without the stain of Original sin.

  2. Blasphemies against Her Perpetual Virginity: Denials and attacks on the Dogma of Our Lady being a Virgin before Our Lord’s birth, during Our Lord’s birth, and after Our Lord’s birth, and so on.

  3. Blasphemies against Her being the Mother of God, and Mother of us all: The denial that Mary, was the Mother of God the Son incarnate, and that Our Lord maintained that Mother and Son relationship throughout Their time on earth, and unto this very day. Also, the denial that Our Lord, out of His infinite Love for us, gave His Blessed Mother to us to be our own Dear Blessed Mother; whilst He was Sacrificing Himself on the Cross for all our sins, and those of the whole world. This beautiful, strong, fearless, kind, wise, gentle, tender, and loving Mother, who is completely and totally free from all the hurtfulness of our fallen nature, is a beautiful and awesome gift that Our Lord gave to us, in addition to the gift of His Redeeming Sacrifice.

  4. The Blasphemous Sins, of those who would sow in the hearts of children, indifference and even contempt for Our Blessed Mother: Perhaps the most disturbing of all the five sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the blasphemous and sinful acts of people to discourage children from developing a devotion to Her, to stop children from developing a relationship with Our Lady as their Blessed Mother; and to sow into the tender hearts of children even a contempt for Her as they are being formed.

  5. The Blasphemy of those, who openly attack the Sacred Images of Our Lady: The blasphemous acts of attacking and destroy the Holy statues and icons of Our Blessed Mother, a blasphemous act that is disturbingly, becoming much more common in our day and age.

In our daily Claritas prayers, we include the intention of consoling Our Blessed Mother’s Immaculate Heart for these five blasphemies against Her, as this will please Our Lord very much as He has the deepest of Love for Her and cherishes Her deeply; thus through this we become closer to Christ, through Our Blessed Mother Whom He loves so much. This is also why we ask Our Lady to console Her Son’s Sacred Heart, for all sins against the First Three Commandments and the Four Sins that cry to Heaven for Vengeance, it please Him much more greatly to have His Own, Dearly Beloved Mother console Him for these sins.

Are you ready now?
